1st class of Design Communication, we were taught about contour drawing. This basically means drawing with your eyes. What ever line we see, we draw it.The end result doesn't matter -
what is important is carefully observing the subject.
The best practice is by NOT lifting your pen / pencil. This is to be done by using one continuous line. Overlapping lines is encouraged. We were told not to rush because that will just make our work messy and too also concentrate on observing every detail. After this lesson was finished, assignment was given to draw out our capsicums and lady fingers in different tonal values. About tonal values, we learned that while lines are essential to the task of delineating contour and shape of the object, we rely on the rendering of tonal values, in order to accentuate shape, light, mass and space.
